The first magazine cover: FISU Magazine
So, in 2010 I was hired by the University of Porto to do the photo coverage of the 4th edition of the World University Rugby 7 Championship... and it was a memorable experience! It was the second time that I was photographing an event like this, but this time (the first one was back in 2008, the Badminton Championship) it was outdoors, in a big stadium and a completely different sport. Better backgrounds, different angles, different light, not enough glass to cover the distance (the biggest "weapon" in my arsenal back then was a 70-200), but in the end I still managed to get some great photos and one of them made the cover of the FISU Magazine. Doing the coverage of an event like this is very demanding because by the end of each day you got to catch "on film" all the teams, the key moments, provide the photos to the media outlets, to the internal communication (newsletter) and feed the website and facebook with lots of pictures. In the end of the week, a very tiring and demanding one, I produced the DVD with all the photos in high resolution to the organizing committee and to FISU. The work was done and now was time to rest and enjoy the summer vacation. After a few months, the magazine was out and I knew that some of the photos will be featured, but I never expected that one of them would get to the cover, so it was a good surprise... and specially because the photo that did it was not among my top 10.
