It was in this moment that someone crossed in front of me and I lost not only that moment/photo, but also the visual ability to determine who had won the bronze. Yes, the visual, because my ears immediately recognized this loud scream that echoed through the air.

This loud scream had come from the same guy who in March, in the test event, passed in front of my camera smiling and doing the OK gesture with his hand. The same guy who in every event that I’m shooting comes to me and shakes my hand and asks me how things are going. The same guy who asked his little brother to enter the fencing competition area to give me a Mexico shirt with my name on it. This is the same guy who had his father praying in the stands before he stepped in to fight for his dream. This guy is Hernandez.

You've got to love an athlete like him, who has the physical and mental ability to cross the finish line in one of the top three places but also has the charisma, the posture and the human touch that make you connect with him, admire him also as a person.

Congratulations my friend… you deserve it!
